Jochebed's Purse..the purpose of parenthood

Counting the Cost

The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home.”

Confucius

Home...whether your experience was good or bad, we all long for a place to call home. The word itself creates security or a longing for security. No matter what our experience was like while growing up, we can probably all agree that home is a place that we long for. Either to one day have, or to return to.

We often think of home as a physical place, the place where we physically reside. However, merely living in a house does not always equate a home. Some have said, "Home is where your heart is." I believe home is an atmosphere created in which love is allowed to flourish and be experienced. HOME is:

Having your Objective as Ministry for the Eternal

When we have our objective of making a home about ministry and moments that will encourage those that we love to be ministry minded, we create an atmosphere where one can grow and become what they were created for.

A home should be:

functional...not fictional

a refuge... not a rescue

seasonal... not sustaining

for exhortation...not exaltation

A functional home should be about finding ministry in the mundane, miraculous in the mayhem, and momentum in the moments.

As Dorthy well said, " There's no place like home."

We as Christ followers must remember that this world is not our home. As parents, we are not creating mere memories of a place for our children to recall, but rather a mindset of ministry. This world is a seasonal journey not a permanent destination. When home is about ministry rather than just memories, it will become an extension of love and a foundation from which many lives will benefit.
